Fincantieri, a global leader in shipbuilding, and the Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA), the official regulator for coastal tourism in Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea region, have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Riyadh, reports Fincantieri.

Expanding Presence

Fincantieri, the Italian shipbuilding group, is set to significantly expand its presence in Saudi Arabia through a new collaboration facilitated by its regional subsidiary, Fincantieri Arabia for Naval Services, established in 2024. This strategic agreement aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 program, which aims to diversify the Kingdom’s economy. The partnership marks a crucial step in Fincantieri’s ongoing expansion into the Kingdom and underscores its commitment to sustainable growth within the Red Sea ecosystem.

The collaboration is with the Red Sea Shipyard Authority (SRSA), a strategic arm of the Saudi government. The SRSA plays a vital role in regulating and advancing the Red Sea’s maritime and coastal sectors. Its mandate covers four core pillars: regulation, regenerative sustainability, investment attraction, and the promotion of tourism. Additionally, the SRSA is a champion of the Blue Economy, seeking to unlock the region’s vast economic potential while simultaneously ensuring environmental stewardship through initiatives like the Red Sea Project.

This agreement presents Fincantieri with a unique opportunity to support the SRSA’s ambitious goals and solidify its position in the rapidly expanding Saudi maritime market. As the Red Sea continues to gain prominence as both a critical artery for global trade and an emerging tourist destination, Fincantieri foresees immense potential for future growth and collaboration with local stakeholders across both the civilian and military sectors. The company aims to establish itself as a trusted partner in the region. Potential opportunities include the construction of luxury cruise ships, as well as the development of state-of-the-art maritime and tourist port facilities designed to cater to the increasing demand for high-quality, sustainable infrastructure.

Ideal Partner

Fincantieri is positioned as an ideal partner for the Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) due to its distinguished expertise in shipbuilding, advanced vessel designs, and sophisticated maritime technology. This makes the company a strong fit for the SRSA’s vision of enhancing the region’s global standing, promoting tourism, and bolstering national security.

Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Fincantieri, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This partnership marks an exciting new chapter in our expansion in the Region, and we are extremely proud to collaborate with the Saudi Red Sea Authority.” He emphasized that by combining Fincantieri’s commercial strength, shipbuilding expertise, and experience in designing and implementing underwater infrastructure and technologies with the SRSA’s forward-looking goals, the aim is to contribute significantly to the Red Sea region’s development. Folgiero articulated the ambition to help the region become one of the world’s top tourist destinations while simultaneously ensuring the protection of its unique natural heritage, both above and below the sea surface.

Further solidifying its strategic development in Saudi Arabia, Fincantieri also inaugurated the new offices of its local subsidiary, Fincantieri Arabia for Naval Services, in Riyadh today. This move underscores the company’s strong commitment to the region and its long-term dedication to supporting the Kingdom’s maritime ambitions.
