A container on board a ship birthed in the Colombo Port caught fire yesterday. The ship was reported to have arrived from India and birthed at the Port of Colombo. A container which was likely to be filled with Lithium batteries could have caught fire and thus the blaze, said the fire brigade.
Sri Lanka Navy rushed to the spot and along with the fire brigade, the blaze was put off under control. The fire brigade reported that the fire was not intense however when they used water to extinguish, there was a huge gust of smoke covering the area. There were no casualties reported.
