Fire erupted on board of passenger ship berthed at Sorong City, West Papua, Indonesia, early in the morning LT Dec 14, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

Fire erupted on board of passenger ship that was berthed at Sorong City, West Papua, Indonesia, early in the morning LT Dec 14.

Fire started on deck 3 and spread further, engulfing bridge and deck below.

Blackout reported

There was a blackout, Chief Officer ordered 10 crew on board to abandon the ship, understood they had to jump in water, all are said to be safe.

Severe damage

Fire severely damaged the ship, some 40-45% of ship’s structure having been destroyed. Engine room remained intact. The ship with capacity up to 500 people didn’t have any passengers on board, she in fact was in preparations for docking.
