Fire Alert Issued After a Smoking Alternator Belt

On September 1, a no sail order was issued on a ferry plying passengers after a fire alert was issued due a faulty alternator belt.

What happened?

The ferry ‘Vineyard Lady’ was issued a no sail order after a fire alert was issued by the ferry staff due to a smoking alternator belt.

The ferry’s trip was suspended between Hyannis and Martha’s Vineyard after a mate went below and found a smoking belt. The staff alerted the captain and the all 142 passengers onboard were deemed safe.

Passengers safe:

All the 142 passengers onboard the ferry were reported to be safe and the situation was brought under control.

No sail ban lifted:

Subsequently, the no sail ban on the ferry was lifted after repairs were made to the slipped generator belt.

Few passengers opted to travel towards Nantucket and few passengers opted for a refund which was duly granted by the ferry operators.
