Date of accident:August 24th, 2015 at around 0900 local time
Location:Drydock No 8 at Daewoo Shipbuilding Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province
Causalities:Two dead and Seven injured
Cause for the fire:Welding works (in one of the VLGCs)

Huge plumes of smoke stretched across the shipyard when fire spread rapidly.  Firefighters revealed that the sparks from a welding work inside a vessel, as the reason for the major fire accident.  The fire engulfed a pair of VLGCs which was under construction, in the dry-dock.

Of the 47 workers present during the incident, 2 died and 7 hospitalised for smoke inhalation.

The ascertainment of the amount of damage caused to the ships and dry-dock is underway.

The accident may incur a substantial financial loss to DSME, which is in financial trouble and facing restructuring.
