Fire Breaks Out On Cargo Ship Near Busan, Injuring Six Crew Members

Recently, a fire broke out on a Russian-flagged refrigerated cargo vessel approximately 8 kilometers off the coast of Busan, near the Port of Gamcheon in South Korea.

Incident and Response

  • The fire was successfully extinguished, but six crew members sustained injuries, with two in serious condition.

  • At the time of the incident, 23 crew members were onboard, including 22 Russian nationals.

  • Emergency services airlifted the two critically injured individuals to a hospital in Busan, while rescue boats evacuated the remaining crew safely.

Investigation Underway

Local reports indicate that the ship’s engine may have been the fire’s source. The South Korean Coast Guard has launched a formal investigation to determine the cause and assess the extent of the damage.
