Fire breaks out on oil tanker during loading at Equinor’s Sture oil export terminal on Norway’s west coast, reports ETEnergyWorld.com

What happened?

A fire broke out in the engine room of an oil tanker during loading at Equinor’s Sture oil export terminal on Norway’s west coast, local police and the oil firm said on Friday.

According to an Equinor spokesman, there was a fire in the engine room of the Dubai Harmony vessel laying in the Sture area. The cause of the fire is still unknown. 

“The incident happened during loading of oil from Sture.”

Crew assisting fire service

The crew of the oil tanker stayed onboard assisting the fire service. Norwegian energy firm Equinor confirmed that evacuations have taken place.

Equinor also said 22 people with emergency preparedness duties are at the terminal.

Refinitiv AIS data showed the Dubai Harmony docked at the Sture oil terminal. The Aframax-type ship can carry up to 115,340 deadweight tonnes, AIS data showed.
