Fire On-Board Anchored Cargo Ship

General cargo ship caught fire on the cargo deck in the afternoon Oct 17 at Sundai Pakning anchorage, Pakning river, Riau, Indonesia, Malacca Strait, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

According to reports, the fire was caused by a shortcut in the hatch cover hydraulic mechanism.

Fire extinguished

The fire was extinguished by the crew using extinguishers, in a short time. No serious damages reported. The ship remains anchored since Oct 6, on arrival from Koh Sichang anchorage, Thailand.
