1869

On April 30, a fire broke out in the engine room onboard a offshore supply ship located in outer Weser.

What happened?

The fire started in the port side engine room of the offshore supply vessel ‘Offshore Taxi 1’ which was located in the outer Weser.

The three lifeboats ‘Hermann Marwede’, ‘Hermann Rudolf Meyer’ and ‘Bernhard Gruben’ located in the vicinity of the vessel were alerted  and attended to the ship.

Engine room shut off

The crew members had already sealed the affected engine room and managed to put out the fire on the catamaran ship which was five miles north of Mellum island at that time. An SAR helicopter belonging to the German Navy was deployed in addition to the fire fighting team from Bremerhaven to the scene.

With the undamaged starboard engine of the ship was kept in position until the helicopter had dropped off the five ship fire experts. After the fire was extinguished, the supply ship headed for Cuxhaven, escorted by a lifeboat.
