Fire Stricken Tanker Taken on Tow

Tanker disabled by fire taken on tow, reports Maritime Bulletin.

Product tanker KEY WEST was disabled by fire on board in the evening Dec 23 E of Sandnessjoen, Norway, Norwegian sea – no many details available, though.

The ship reported fire on board to MRCC and requested assistance, being disabled at roughly, 2030 UTC Dec 23. Tug BOA FRIGG (IMO 8714279) responded, towage commenced at around 0830 UTC Dec 24, port of destination Sandnessjoen. Tanker was en route from Bodo to Lysoysundet, Norway, accident occurred when tanker was half-way between Bodo and Lysoysundet.

The fire erupted in engine room, so it’s not cargo-related major fire, or else there will be CG and Rescue ships around.
