Fire After Tanker and Bulk Carrier Collide with Each Other

On July 9, a bulk carrier reportedly collided with a tanker berthed in a petrochemical terminal.

What happened?

While sailing upstream the Yangtze River, the bulk carrier “Tian Sheng 18” struck the “Shuang Long Hai”, which was berthed at Petrochemical Terminal in Changzhou.

Tanker suffers damages:

The tanker suffered damages to the hull, a cargo pipe ruptured, causing a fire on board.

The tanker’s 15 crew members were evacuated from the vessel, the hull of which was breached, but without imminent danger of sinking.

Tanker stabilized:

In the morning of July 10 the fire was extinguished, and the tanker was stabilized, and the situation was reported to be under control.

Oil booms were placed around the vessel and its berth.

Crew members safe:

The crew members onboard both the vessels were rescued safely with no injuries.
