Folk Maritime Services Company has announced the official acquisition of Folk Jazan, its second owned container vessel. This move is seen as a strategic step in the company’s expansion plan and supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to establish the country as a global logistics hub. The vessel is already operating across the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.

Strengthening Maritime Infrastructure and Operational Capabilities

According to CEO Poul Hestbaek, the acquisition of Folk Jazan enhances Folk Maritime’s operational capabilities and underscores its commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s maritime infrastructure. This development builds on the company’s first vessel purchase, Folk Jeddah, which began operations in September 2024 from Jeddah Islamic Port.

Reducing Dependency and Enhancing Regional Trade

The addition of Folk Jazan, a Saudi-flagged vessel built in 2008 by Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co., China, with a nominal capacity of 2,015 TEUs, brings the company’s fleet to six vessels. This helps reduce dependence on chartered ships and enhances the flexibility of operations. The expansion demonstrates Folk Maritime’s intent to boost regional trade and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.
