Folk Maritime Services Company, a PIF-supported regional market leader in liner and feeder services, has recently placed three new container ships on its fleet. The ships M/V Folk Dammam, M/V Folk Yanbu, and M/V Folk Jubail are to be placed in service within the next month. Flagged in Saudi Arabia at Jeddah Islamic Port, the new ships have capacities of 1,868 TEUs, 702 TEUs, and 1,118 TEUs, respectively, reports Folk Maritime.

Strategic Step to Enhance Regional Presence and Vision 2030 Support

The strategic purchase is designed to increase Folk Maritime’s operational capability throughout the Red Sea, Arabian Gulf, Indian subcontinent, and other major regional trade routes. The growth also supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 vision of making the Kingdom a world logistics leader.

CEO Highlights Strategic Significance of New Ships

Poul Hestbaek, CEO at Folk Maritime, emphasised the importance of this step in reinforcing the company’s long-term direction. “The addition of Folk Dammam, Folk Yanbu, and Folk Jubail to our fleet strengthens our ability to deliver efficient and reliable shipping solutions. This expansion not only supports Folk Maritime’s ambitions to expand fleet capacity, but also reinforces our commitment to reducing reliance on chartered vessels and investing in Saudi-flagged assets. These efforts directly align with Vision 2030’s objectives to build a competitive, self-sufficient logistics sector,” he said.

Expansion Grows on Past Achievements

The release is the next milestone in Folk Maritime’s strategic expansion initiative. The initiative started with the deployment of M/V Folk Jeddah in September 2024 and was later succeeded by M/V Folk Jazan in April 2025. With the imminent deployment of Folk Dammam, Folk Yanbu, and Folk Jubail, the company’s fleet of active vessels will grow to eight vessels, five owned and three chartered.

Supporting Vision 2030’s Maritime Vision

The growth of Folk Maritime’s fleet is a direct support for the logistics evolution set in Vision 2030. Through investment in Saudi-flagged assets and improving its service coverage, the firm is working toward establishing Saudi Arabia as the leading maritime hub within the Red Sea area.
