An ex cruise ship crew member has revealed a clever way cruise passengers can save money and enjoy their holiday, reports Daily Express.
Good idea to save money
Cruise ship holidays offer a wonderful opportunity to travel to multiple destinations without ever having to change rooms or unpack. They can, however, sometimes be a bit expensive which can see holiday costs rising.
Consequently, it’s a good idea to save money where possible – and a former cruise ship crew remember has revealed one easy way to do so. Ex cruise worker Joshua Kinser explained the importance of bringing on-board your own drinks.
Cruise ships do have luggage allowance restrictions in place – but its a good idea to research ahead and see what you’re allowed to bring.
Beverages on board
By taking along your own beverages you could save yourself a fair bit of money.
“Passengers, if they drink alcohol or soda, should always take advantage of the rule on most ships that allows them to bring a certain amount of alcohol and sodas on board with them in their luggage,” Kinser told Express.co.uk.
“Most cruise lines allow passengers to bring one bottle of wine or champagne and a six-pack of soda on board with them.”
“The amount varies so check with the cruise line before you pack,” Kinser cautioned.
“A lot of passengers don’t realise this is allowed and the prices of alcohol and sodas aboard cruise ships is about the same as a front-row ticket to see Elton John.”
Mainstream cruise lines all ban passengers from bringing spirits and beer on board.
They do, however, permit at least one bottle of wine or champagne – although corkage fees may apply.
For example, on Royal Caribbean cruises “guests are not allowed to bring beer or hard liquor onboard for consumption or any other use,” states their website.
Containers will be inspected and any containing alcohol will be disposed of.
Royal Caribbean states: “Alcoholic beverages seized on embarkation day will not be returned.”
Restriction on alcohol hold
However, this strict rule does not extend to wine or champagne as cruise passengers can bring two 750ml bottles of these aboard per stateroom.
Carnival Cruise Line, however, will only permit guests to bring one bottle of wine or champagne on board.
Norwegian Cruise Line does not appear to state a limit on bottles of wine and champagne.
The NCL website says: “Guests may bring sealed bottles of wine onboard for personal consumption.“
Passengers are advised to check specific cruise lines ahead of travelling when it comes to other banned items and the allowance rules.
