According to an article published in Lloyds List, Emirati authorities will carry out a DNA test to see if two of the dead were the two Indian sailors that were reported missing, while two others Indians were also killed.
What happened?
The tanker caught fire in the Persian Gulf, off the Strait of Hormuz. According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the ship was on fire 21 nautical miles (39 km) northwest of United Arabs Emirates city Sharjah.
Cause of fire unknown
At the time of the incident, the ship’s crew of 12 Indians and 44 others worked to prepare it to be scrapped in India, while the cause of the fire remains unknown.
After the incident, initial information did not acknowledge any deaths, claiming that the tanker was unloaded and its crew was rescued.
The vessel was last inspected by Japanese authorities in May 2010.
