Four tugs intercepted to avoid the collision in the Port of Valencia after a Liberian-flagged vessel broke off its mooring.
It was a near miss for the boxship giants, on Tuesday, which avoided collision at the port due to tug interference. The Liberian-flagged vessel, which was moored at the port, broke off its moorings due to strong winds that battered the entire country for days.
The vessel started to drift uncontrollably towards the container ship, which was docked at terminal Noatum. Boluda Maritime Corporation responded immediately and dispatched four tugs to the spot to split the vessels which was very close to each other. Thanks to the tugs which avoided damages to the ship’s hull.
According to Boluda, the strong wind was hampering the towage operation and it took around six hours to bring the giant container ship safely back to its moorings.
The container ship resumed its voyage while the Liberian flagged vessel is still in dock.
