[Watch] Freediver Captures Incredible Photos Exploring Sunken Ship in Bali

Sunken ships are usually best avoided, but freediver Adam Stern’s trip to a seabed wreckage proved to be a very worthwhile expedition.

The 28-year-old Australian captured these spectacular images while exploring the breathtaking Boga shipwreck in north-east East Bali with friends.

He couldn’t resist posing for photos at the helm of the ship, becoming captain of the sunken vessel for a precious few seconds, before he needed to return to the surface and catch a much-needed breath.

The Australian competes in events around the world where athletes dive as deep as they can using a single breath.

“Freediving this wreck was such a treat,” he explained.

“I haven’t dived many wrecks that were so complete and whole as the Boga wreck. It even had a car wreck inside the hold! A very fun freediving trip.”

“We had stunning conditions and visibility for the dive as well which is always a bonus,” he recalled.

“The wreck starts at about 20 metres deep and goes to around 35 metres deep which I loved because it means that not many freedivers have been there before.”

On his photo at the ship’s wheel, he added: “You know that this shot was inevitable. You can’t take a bunch of freedivers to a wreck in which there is a helm and not have us stand around it pretending to be captains.”

“I was very surprised about how close the wreckage was to shore, that was pretty cool.”

The gigantic wreck is an old coast guard ship that was sunk purposely for diving in 2012.
