On August 27, a foreship which was unloaded and enroute for repairs reportedly broke into two after encountering problems with the anchor chain.
What happened?
The foreship ‘Leonardo’ proceeding from the northern entrance of the Bosphorus strait to Tuzla for further repairs when the incident occurred. The vessel started buckling off Sarıyer Demirciköy and reportedly broke into two after its anchor chain parted off Kilyos while awaiting transit. The foreship started sinking and was salvaged by the tug boats while the stern part drifted onto the rocks at the nearby shore.
Crew rescued:
The eleven crew members onboard the vessel were rescued by the SAR tow boats and eight ships were dispatched to the scene by General Directorate of Coastal Safety. The rescued crew members were handed over to an ambulance for health check by speed boats at Rumelian lighthouse.
