On June 28, a technical problem aboard the Cargo ship “Pemba” resulted in drag anchor and allided with the Nieuwediep Quay in Den Helder.

The vessel enroute from Haifa went out of control and managed to escape hitting an oil rig instead slammed into the quay.  The crew attempted an emergency anchoring maneuver, which did not completely help the situation.

The vessel suffered significant damage to her bulbous bow and was later towed by tugs to Ankerpark where it was reportedly berthed for inspection.  An investigation into the exact circumstances and the resulting damage was launched by the port authority.
