Freighter Sinks Off Koh Si Chang

On June 13, a freight ship sank near Koh Si Chang in Chon Buri province and four members onboard the vessel were saved.

What happened?

The freight ship ‘Phattara Marine 6’ loaded with 72 containers was enroute from Laem Chabang to Bangkok when it sank near Koh Thai Ta Muen, which is located south of Koh Si Chang.

Crew members rescued

The centre  for marine traffic and safety of Laem Chabang deep sea port were notified about the incident. The officials rushed to the scene of the incident and rescued four crew members. They were successfully able to retrieve 20 out of 72 containers which fell into  water.

Oil spill averted

The scuba divers deployed from the centre were dispatched to plug the oil tank of the ship and notified that it would take another three days to retrieve all the containers.
