- Norwegian Company Fuella to Invest US$1.5 Billion in Green Ammonia Facility.
- Ceará’s Ideal Conditions Drive Fuella’s Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Production.
- Port of Rotterdam to Support Fuella’s Green Ammonia Project with Infrastructure.
Norwegian green hydrogen and ammonia company Fuella signs a critical agreement with the Port of Pecém in the State of Ceará, Brazil. Under the deal signed on 28th October 2024, Fuella will produce 400,000 tons of green ammonia annually destined for international markets, reports Offshore Energy.
Investment and Job Creation
The investment is a total of R$9 billion, approximately US$1.5 billion. The facility will provide economic stimulation and create over 1,000 jobs, highly beneficial to the local population in Ceará.
Ceará’s Competitive Advantage
Fuella chose Ceará for this project because it has ideal conditions to work out the new production of green hydrogen. The state is saturated with all wind and solar energy combined with hydropower, which makes it a prime location for the production of sustainable energies.
Collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam
The Port of Pecém would be partnered with the Port of Rotterdam port infrastructures to offer vital assets, such as export terminals and synergies from industry. Fuella would utilize these resources as part of its strategic expansion into green hydrogen and ammonia production.
Fuella’s Statement on the Project
Thorsten Helms, Managing Director of Business & Corporate Development at Fuella, commented: “We are very happy and proud to be able to secure this project in the Port of Pecém. This is one of the best locations in the world for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia. We thank the Port of Pecém and its shareholders, the State of Ceará and the Port of Rotterdam for their trust.”
Additional Collaboration with Porto do Açu
In a move related to that, Fuella has penned an area reservation agreement with Porto do Açu, the subsidiary of the Prumo Logística economic group, for a low-carbon hydrogen hub on the complex at the port in northern Rio de Janeiro State.
Among them, three (Fuella, Prumo, and Porto do Açu) have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to team up to develop a 400,000-ton-a-year green ammonia production plant using water electrolysis. It will be exported or consumed in the domestic market with an FID of four years. The first production is expected in 2030.
