- The Dry Bulk Management Standard (DryBMS) portal has been launched to enhance safety, wellbeing, and sustainability in the dry bulk shipping industry.
- The portal, developed by the Dry Bulk Centre of Excellence (DBCE), allows ship owners and managers to perform self-assessments to improve operational standards and exceed compliance.
- DBCE aims to reduce workplace incidents through better vessel management, as emphasized by Ian McLeod, Managing Director of DBCE.
The dry bulk shipping industry has received an important update with the launch of the Dry Bulk Management Standard (DryBMS) portal. This new platform is designed to improve safety, wellbeing, and sustainability in the sector, reports DBCE.
Establishment of DBCE
Industry experts, including INTERCARGO and RightShip, have collaborated to create the Dry Bulk Centre of Excellence (DBCE), the organization behind the DryBMS platform.
DBCE, a non-profit organization, has developed the DryBMS framework to help the industry adopt best practices and raise operational standards.
DBCE offers ship owners and managers the ability to perform online self-assessments using the DryBMS framework. By answering a series of questions, companies can evaluate their practices and identify ways to improve beyond basic compliance.
Benefits of the Organisation
Subscribing to DBCE offers various benefits, including better Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards, enhanced personnel wellbeing, improved risk assessment, cybersecurity, and crisis management. It also demonstrates to charterer customers a commitment to exceeding compliance requirements.
Ian McLeod, Managing Director of DBCE, highlighted the importance of the portal, saying, “Far too many seafarers incur life-changing injuries or lose their lives while at work. With the launch of the DryBMS portal, we aim to help drive a reduction in the incidents by helping ship operators improve how they manage their vessels and operations.”
The DryBMS portal, developed over four years, introduces a comprehensive set of best practices that go beyond legal requirements. This easy-to-use self-assessment tool is a major step toward improving safety standards in the shipping industry.
