Gasum, a Finnish state-owned energy company, has successfully carried out its first LNG bunkering operation at the Port of Tolkkinen, located near the Porvoo refinery in Finland.
The operation, conducted via truck-to-ship transfer, supplied LNG to the vessel Ramira, operated by Swedish shipping company Furetank. This marks a major milestone in expanding Gasum’s ability to provide LNG and bio-LNG to vessels in the Porvoo region.
Expanding LNG Supply in Finland
The successful bunkering of Ramira highlights Gasum’s growing role in advancing sustainable fuel solutions for the maritime industry. By enabling LNG and bio-LNG bunkering at Tolkkinen, Gasum strengthens its regional supply capabilities and supports the shipping industry’s efforts to lower emissions.
With LNG terminals across Finland, Sweden, and Norway, Gasum is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for cleaner marine fuels across Europe.
Key Stakeholders in the Operation
The operation involved multiple stakeholders committed to sustainable shipping. Ramira, a product and chemical tanker operated by Furetank, is designed in compliance with strict international maritime standards and environmental requirements.
Furetank, part of the Gothia Tanker Alliance, has been a frontrunner in deploying eco-friendly tankers. This collaboration underlines the shared commitment of Gasum and Furetank toward reducing the environmental footprint of global shipping.
Gasum’s first LNG bunkering at Tolkkinen represents a significant step forward in developing cleaner and more sustainable maritime energy infrastructure in Finland. By expanding LNG and bio-LNG availability to vessels in the Porvoo region, Gasum is contributing to the maritime sector’s transition to low-emission fuels, while companies like Furetank continue to pioneer environmentally responsible shipping operations.
