Gdańsk Port Signs Contract For Reconstruction Of Węglowe Quay

The Węglowe Quay in Gdańsk’s Inner Port is set for reconstruction. The Port of Gdańsk Authority SA signed a contract with Budimex, the general contractor, on March 10th. This redevelopment is expected to enhance the Inner Port’s appeal to logistics companies and shipping lines, reports Port Gdansk.

Improving Infra

The Port of Gdańsk has signed an agreement with Budimex for the modernization of the Wiślane Quay.

The agreement was signed by key members of the Port of Gdańsk’s Management Board and a representative from Budimex.

This project is part of a larger initiative to improve the Port of Gdańsk’s infrastructure, which is being co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF 2). The project involves the reconstruction of nearly 2 kilometers of quays in the Inner Port.

Modernization work is already underway at the Rudowe III and Bytomskie Quays, and the Wiślane Quay is the next phase of this project.

Cargo Handling

The Węglowe Quay, situated in the Górniczy Basin, has been crucial for bulk cargo handling for many years. However, its current condition limits its use.

A new 540-meter quay will be built in two stages under the recently signed agreement. This will include reinforced concrete pavement, rail tracks, crane rails, bollards, and fender equipment.

The project also involves constructing new water supply networks, a rainwater drainage system, and an electricity grid. Dredging will deepen the quay to 11.20 meters.

The investment aims to make the quay suitable for handling cargo with specific equipment, which is currently impossible due to its condition. This will allow the quay to accommodate larger ships with a maximum draft of 10.60 meters and a load capacity of up to 100,000 DWT.
