The year 2016, witnessed two major world events which struck shipping with a heavy blow. One – the Baltic Index tumbled as low as possible and at the same time, the oil prices weakened the trade as well as profits.

Sources say that at least 23 ships have moved out of layup at Greece from March 2016. Reports referring to a list of laid-up ships released by the Greek coastguard state that at least 17 bulkers and boxships are missing from the recently released list when compared to march 2016.  Definitely this is a positive sign and it is time for the engines to get some heat.

Prominent owners who removed ships from lay-up are not limited to, but also Golden-port Ship Management, Golden Union, Chartworld Shipping, Ocean Bulk, Bocimar, and Sealion shipping.

The number of tugs, offshore vessels laid up are almost in equal numbers as for cargo ships.

Thus, based on the market trends, it is time to bring the heat on your engines!
