Global Bunker Market Sees Uptrend By Week’s End

  • The Global bunker market experienced an uptrend towards the end of the week.
  • The MABUX World Bunker Index, which reflects current prices for 380 HSFO, VLSFO, and MGO, continued its upward trend on January 25th, marking the third consecutive day of increases.
  • The MABUX MBP/DBP Index (MDI), tracking the correlation between market bunker prices (MBP) and the MABUX digital bunker price benchmark (DBP), revealed trends at four selected ports: Rotterdam, Singapore, Fujairah, and Houston.
  • All four ports continued to be undercharged, with fluctuations in undercharge premiums.

On January 25th, the MABUX World Bunker Index, calculated from prevailing prices of 380 HSFO, VLSFO, and MGO, extended its upward trajectory for the third consecutive day.

380 HSFO – USD/MT – 504.37 (+1.88)

VLSFO – USD/MT – 655.36 (+3.87)

MGO – USD/MT – 895.39 (+1.20)

HSFO Shifts

As of Jan.25, the MABUX MBP/DBP Index (MDI), tracking the correlation between market bunker prices (MBP) and the MABUX digital bunker price benchmark (DBP), has revealed the following trends at four selected ports: Rotterdam, Singapore, Fujairah, and Houston.

– HSFO segment: All four selected ports remained in the undercharge zone, with the underprice premium widening by $1 in Rotterdam, narrowing by $6 in Singapore and $2 in Fujairah, and remaining unchanged in Houston.

VLSFO Shifts

– VLSFO segment: Rotterdam is the only underpriced port in this fuel segment, with the ratio dropping by $4. The other three selected ports were overpriced, with margins increasing by $4 in Singapore, $3 in Fujairah, and $2 in Houston.

MGO LS Shifts

– MGO LS segment: All four selected ports continued to be undercharged. Undercharge premiums have dropped by $6 in Rotterdam, $6 in Singapore, and $5 in Houston, but have risen by $10 in Fujairah.

We expect upward evolution to continue in the Global bunker market on Jan.26: 380 HSFO – plus 5-11 USD/MT, VLSFO – plus 5-14 USD/MT, MGO LS – minus 7-15 USD/MT.
