  • Average Vessel Delays Increase in July 2025.
  • Maersk Leads Carrier Reliability, HMM at the Bottom.
  • New Metrics Track Alliance Performance.

In July 2025, we saw a month-on-month dip in global schedule reliability for the first time since January, dropping by 2.2 percentage points to 65.2 per cent. On a brighter note, when we look at the year-on-year figures, reliability actually improved, climbing by 13.0 percentage points. Unfortunately, the average delay for late vessel arrivals also worsened, increasing by 0.14 days from the previous month to hit 4.68 days, reports Sea Intelligence.

Carrier Performance

Among the top 13 carriers, Maersk led the pack with the highest schedule reliability at 80.6 per cent, closely followed by Hapag-Lloyd at 74.0 per cent. The next six carriers fell within the 60 to 70 per cent range, while the rest struggled a bit more, landing in the 50 to 60 per cent range. At the bottom of the list, HMM had the weakest performance, with a reliability of just 50.7 per cent in July 2025.

Alliance Reliability Measures

Traditionally, alliance performance has been gauged by arrivals in destination regions. However, since this data was missing for the newly formed alliances in February 2025, a broader metric called “All Arrivals” was introduced. This new measure also considers calls from origin regions on East–West trades. Both “All Arrivals” and “Trade Arrivals” are now being reported, and we expect them to align as the new alliances fully roll out.

Alliance Performance in June/July 2025

The Gemini Cooperation stood out with the highest reliability, achieving 92.0 per cent on the “All Arrivals” measure and 89.6 per cent on the “Trade Arrivals” measure. MSC followed with 76.5 per cent for “All Arrivals” and 76.2 per cent for “Trade Arrivals.” Meanwhile, the Premier Alliance lagged, recording 54.6 per cent on “All Arrivals” and 54.8 per cent on “Trade Arrivals.” Among the older alliances, Ocean Alliance managed to hit 69.4 per cent, with both “All Arrivals” and “Trade Arrivals” being equal.
