GNV Takes Delivery of New Ro-Pax Vessel GNV Orion

GNV, owned by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Group, has officially received GNV Orion, the second ship of its new generation to be delivered by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI). The ship comes after the first sister, GNV Polaris, reports Baird Maritime.

Extensive Passenger and Cargo Capacity

GNV Orion is 218 metres long and 29.6 metres in beam. She has capacity for 1,700 passengers and provides 3,080 lane metres of cargo area. Her gross tonnage is 52,300.

Modern Accommodation and Propulsion

The vessel has 418 cabins and 15 luxury suites, which make it a pleasurable journey. Propulsion is offered by four nine-cylinder, medium-speed diesel engines, each with a power output of 10,350 kw (13,880 hp). The engines drive two propellers, offering a maximum speed of 25 knots at 83% MCR and a range of 3,500 nautical miles.

Entering Service in the Mediterranean

GNV Orion will be commencing operations in the Mediterranean in June, operating on the Geneva–Palermo route.

According to GNV, the environmental design of the ship is said to lower CO₂ emissions by over 30% per transportable load than other vessels already in service within the fleet.
