Greek customs officials have detained Panama-flagged roll on, roll off (Roro) transporter Tychy for smuggling 16 armored vehicles. The illegal cargo comprised of one armored Mercedes and BMW, five armored Toyota Land Cruisers, eight armored Typhoon GSS-300 military vehicles and an additional unspecified vehicle. The detention had happened at the Keratsini port in Libya where the Roro carrier was bound for the Libyan Khalid port.

Shipment of these kinds of vehicles to Libya is a violation of paragraph 9 of UN Decision 1970/2011, which forbids the direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer of military and paramilitary equipment to the country.

This is not the first time that Tychy is in limelight for carrying arms illegally. Such incident had also happened in February where it was found to be carrying another cargo of prohibited vehicles.

The vessel is registered with Maritime Operators Inc and is managed commercially by Reefer & General Ship Management, both are based in Greece.
