Attendees were also briefed on major industry trends shaping the future of shipping, including emissions reduction, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, digital twins, and data analytics. ABS is integrating these technologies to support predictive compliance and maintenance, aiming to enhance safety, reliability, performance, and commercial outcomes.
A highlight of the meeting was a preview of developments from ABS Wavesight™, including a unified Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform designed to connect vessel performance with regulatory compliance. The platform offers AI-powered, data-driven insights to support better decision-making and meet FuelEU Maritime requirements, including fleet pooling, reporting, documentation, and management of EU allowances.
Special guest Professor Themis Sapsis from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) provided an in-depth look at the maritime decarbonization landscape. His presentation covered key technologies such as nuclear energy, autonomy, cybersecurity, hydrodynamics, and advanced manufacturing, offering insights into the future of marine engineering and sustainability.
The event also recognized Peter Livanos, Chairman of GasLog Ltd., with the ABS Distinguished Service Award for his 21 years of leadership as the Committee Chairman. George Angelopoulos, owner of Arcadia Shipmanagement Co. Ltd., was named as the new chairman, marking a transition in committee leadership.
