Around the turn of the decade, the boss of a major German shipping company emphasizes that there will be a lot more ships that can run on green fuels than there will be green fuels available, reports bunker spot.
Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen responded to questions from industry guests during a live virtual session on December 9th, stating that the primary obstacle to achieving shipping’s net-zero goal is the limited supply of green fuels.
Offtake agreement
Hapag-Lloyd and Goldwind, a Chinese fuel supplier, announced a long-term offtake agreement on November 28. The agreement calls for the delivery of 250,000 tonnes of green methanol annually, with early volumes beginning in 2026.
Habben Jansen responded that it is “difficult to judge at this point in time” when asked if he was confident that green methanol would be available in other parts of the world in the future.
