Danish Shipping is actively participating in COP30 in Belém, Brazil, placing strong emphasis on building global alliances and partnerships to drive the green transition in the maritime sector.
At the summit, Danish Shipping is hosting a side event titled “Green transition of shipping: With or without the IMO”, signaling a push to deepen ties with climate-ambitious stakeholders — especially in the value chain focused on alternative fuels.
The urgency for this cooperation has grown after a recent delay in the adoption of more concrete climate regulations through the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Nina Porst, Executive Director for Climate, Environment & Security at Danish Shipping, remarked that this postponement underscores the importance of uniting with like-minded nations ahead of the next IMO session.
She emphasized that real change will come through tangible action — particularly by accelerating investments in green fuels.
Porst identified Brazil and other Mercosur countries as key strategic partners, given their strong support for global climate regulation in shipping. Danish Shipping also highlighted the sector’s responsibility: shipping contributes up to 3% of global CO₂ emissions, making it critical for the industry to champion decarbonization.
