The Grimaldi Group has signed an agreement with Alfa Laval for connectivity services on its PureSOx marine scrubber, which is installed on five vessels operated by Atlantic Container Line (ACL). The services will provide compliance monitoring data that can be used to optimise PureSOx operation.
ALREM retrofit
PureSOx is installed on the Grimaldi Group’s Atlantic Sail, Atlantic Sea, Atlantic Sky, Atlantic Star and Atlantic Sun. The marine scrubbers onboard the vessels will undergo retrofit of the Alfa Laval Remote Emission Monitor (ALREM), a data reporting and storage device that is the basis for the PureSOx connectivity programme. The ALREM device will ensure all information on the scrubbers and their performance is available to the Grimaldi Group in one place.
Easy compliance
Dario Bocchetti, corporate energy saving manager for the Grimaldi Group said, “Connectivity is useful for seeing where we are and demonstrating our compliance easily, but it will also be beneficial for our operational levels down the road. The more Alfa Laval can help us learn from the data, the more we can help our crews to understand our PureSOx systems and operate them in an optimal way”.
He continued: “We’ve seen the value that collected data can offer. By evaluating data from the current data logging system, for example, we’ve realised that PureSOx releases even less SOx than if we were sailing on MGO. With a fully connected solution based on the ALREM, such analyses will be far easier to perform”.
Other clauses
The agreement between the Grimaldi Group and Alfa Laval covers the next three years, after which the services and their benefits will be evaluated. The contract includes in addition to ALREM, training, yearly inspections, spare part supply and a sensor exchange programme.
