A freighter ran aground off northwestern Canakkale province on Thursday and was pulled off seabed on Saturday, reports AA.com.

What happened?

Panama-flagged freighter carrying cargo of silica sand ran aground near Bozcaada island off northwestern Canakkale province on Thursday and was was pulled off the seabed on Saturday.

Rescue & assessment

Turkish teams carried out underwater work on damage assessment and feasibility to drag the ship off the seabed.

The 149-meter (489-foot) and 11,848-gross-ton ship was towed to safety.

About her voyage

She had left Abu Zenima port of Egypt and ran aground while en route to the Derince port in Turkey’s northwestern Kocaeli province.

The vessel will return to its course after completion of necessary procedures.
