Grounding on New Breakwater

On June 24, a new breakwater ran aground while entering the Torshavn on the Faroe Islands.

What happened?

The new breakwater vessel ‘Perseus’ ran aground while entering Tórshavn upon the Faroe Islands.

The ship struck the newly built rubble mound breakwater while preparing to reverse into the harbour.

Tugs dispatched

Two tugs ‘Samson’ and the ‘Brimil’ were dispatched to refloat the ship which succeeded in the early morning hours of June 25.

No damages

Shortly after the vessel was freed, the vessel left Tórshavn again the same day after unloading cargo following inspections.

The breakwater was marked out in accordance with current regulations and in consultation with the relevant authorities.
