GSI Launches Next-Gen 8,600 CEU Green Car Carrier for H-LINE

Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), in partnership with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), has officially delivered its second 8,600 CEU dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) to H-LINE Shipping of South Korea, reports iMarine News.

This vessel is part of a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing green shipping capabilities and expanding the operational capacity of H-LINE’s car carrier fleet.

Enhanced Capacity and Design

This new PCTC boasts a capacity of 8,600 car equivalent units (CEU), which is a significant upgrade from earlier 7,000 CEU models—achieved without altering the overall dimensions of the hull. The vessel measures 200 meters in length, 38 meters in beam, and has a design draft of 9.2 meters. It includes 14 decks in total, five of which are liftable to accommodate a variety of vehicle types and specialized cargo, offering increased flexibility and cargo handling efficiency.

A major highlight of this vessel is its integration of a smart ship system that manages navigation, engine operations, and cargo handling. This intelligent system is designed to enhance safety, reduce fuel consumption, and streamline shipboard operations. Additionally, the ship is equipped with a waste heat recovery system that recycles exhaust heat from the main engine, improving energy efficiency and reducing fuel dependency.

Dual-Fuel Propulsion and Sustainability

The vessel is powered by a dual-fuel engine system that operates on both conventional fuel and liquefied natural gas (LNG). This setup allows for significant reductions in emissions, enabling compliance with the latest IMO Tier III environmental standards. The hull itself has been optimized for reduced resistance through the water, contributing further to lower fuel use and operating costs.

Following its delivery, the PCTC will enter commercial service under charter to Glovis Corporation, a major logistics subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group. The ship will primarily be used for the international transport of Hyundai vehicles, reinforcing the importance of clean and efficient logistics solutions in global automotive trade.
