GTT Secures Order For World’s Largest Ultra Large Ethane Carriers

167

In the third quarter of 2024, GTT received an order from Jiangnan Shipyard to design the tanks for six Ultra Large Ethane Carriers (ULEC) on behalf of Eastern Pacific Shipping. The vessels, with a capacity of 150,000 m³, will be the largest ever built for ethane transport, featuring GTT’s advanced Mark III membrane containment system.

Record-Breaking Ethane Carrier Design

This marks a world first in constructing ethane carriers of this scale, surpassing the typical capacity of 99,000 m³ seen in Very Large Ethane Carriers. GTT has been a pioneer in ULEC development since 2018, obtaining approval for their 150,000 m³ design in 2019.

Flexible Containment System

The Mark III membrane system allows tanks to carry a range of liquefied gases, including LNG, providing operational flexibility throughout the vessel’s lifespan, making it adaptable to changing market needs.

Strategic Partnership for Innovation

Jiangnan Shipyard and GTT’s collaboration brings together expertise in ethane carrier construction and membrane technology. The partnership sets new standards for efficiency in long-distance ethane shipping and strengthens Jiangnan’s position in sustainable gas carrier projects.
