Hanwha Ocean Co. has successfully delivered the company’s 200th liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, marking a major milestone in the shipbuilding industry, reports Chosun.biz
Global milestone in innovation
According to Hanwha Ocean, the vessel was delivered to SK Shipping Co., which will operate under a South Korean consortium in the North Field Expansion Project, a major Middle Eastern offshore gas project by Qatar Energy.
The delivered LNG carrier is an environmentally friendly vessel that significantly reduces atmospheric pollutant emissions. It also incorporates Hanwha Ocean’s latest smart ship solution for efficient vessel operation, according to the company.
Hanwha Ocean delivered its first LNG carrier in 1995 and delivered its 100th LNG carrier in 2016. The company’s next 100 units were built in nine years thanks to the company’s increased production efficiency.
“With our unparalleled technological expertise, Hanwha Ocean takes pride in being the best shipyard to meet the demands of global shipowners,” said Kim Jong-seo, head of Hanwha Ocean’s merchant ship business division.
