A Groundbreaking Achievement 

Classification society DNV recently presented Hanwha Ocean with an Approval in Principle (AiP) for their cutting-edge 270,000cbm LNG carrier, a design hailed as a “groundbreaking achievement.” The AiP was presented by Vidar Dolonen, Regional Manager, Korea & Japan, DNV, to Jong Seo Kim, COO of Hanwha Ocean, at the company’s office in Okpo.

Maximizing Cargo Capacity and Performance

The newly unveiled LNG carrier by Hanwha Ocean measures an impressive 345 meters in length and boasts a molded breadth of 55 meters. Notably, it incorporates five cargo tanks designed to minimize sloshing pressure during transit. Additionally, the vessel will be equipped with a well-proven X-DF engine and a re-liquefaction system, promising top-tier performance and a significant improvement in the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII).

DNV’s Role in Pioneering Innovation

DNV played a pivotal role in this groundbreaking project. Under its class guidelines, the society conducted a comprehensive structural verification and feasibility study, ensuring the carrier’s structural integrity and reliability. Critical structural details underwent rigorous validation through advanced analysis, and sloshing calculations for cargo tanks were carefully reviewed, further enhancing the carrier’s structural robustness.
