HD Hyundai Heavy Industries – Engine and Machinery has passed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of the world’s first H54DF HiMSEN engine. According to MarineLink, this was accomplished at its South Korean state-of-the-art facility, reports Marine Link.

World’s Most Powerful 4-Stroke Engine

The H54DF engine stands out as a great innovator in marine technology. It has 6 cylinders and can run on dual fuel, both natural gas and diesel, hence producing an astonishing 12,000 horsepower, the most powerful 4-stroke engine per cylinder worldwide.
Unparalleled Performance

The H54DF engine is a significant improvement over the current technologies. It produces nearly three times the power output of the current dual-fuel engines and has an 18 per cent increase in power compared to traditional diesel engines. These advancements represent a transformative step forward in marine propulsion systems.

Collaborative Efforts During Testing

The Factory Acceptance Test of the H54DF engine was a collaborative effort between key stakeholders: Excelerate Energy, shipowner; Bureau Veritas (BV), classification society; and shipyard HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Such participation from the groups shows how rigorous and precise the testing process was.

Installation on the 3407 FSRU

The H54DF engine will be installed on the 3407 Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU), which is under construction at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. This engine will greatly enhance the operational capabilities and efficiency of the FSRU.

Advanced Manufacturing Capacity

HDD for the H54DF started manufacturing the engines from the Yeongam facility in October 2022. The facility can produce as many as 200 engines per year, with an overall output of about 1.2 million horsepower. Such production capacity is a testament to the company’s leadership in developing high-performance marine engines from all over the world.
