HD Hyundai Mipo has launched the world’s largest liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO₂) carrier with a capacity of 22,000 cubic meters.

The vessel is over three times the size of existing LCO₂ carriers and is designed to transport multiple liquefied gases, including CO₂, LPG, and ammonia.

This marks the first of four vessels ordered by Capital CARRY Clean Energy, with delivery expected by the end of the year.
HD Hyundai Mipo, a shipbuilding division of HD Hyundai, held a launch ceremony for its revolutionary 22,000 cubic meter liquefied carbon dioxide carrier at its Ulsan shipyard. This cutting-edge vessel represents a major leap forward in gas transportation technology and is the first of four ships ordered by Capital CARRY Clean Energy.
Measuring 159.9 meters in length, 27.4 meters in width, and 17.8 meters in height, the vessel dwarfs existing LCO₂ carriers, which typically have capacities around 7,500 cubic meters. This makes it the largest of its kind in the world.
Multi-Gas Capability and Advanced Storage
The vessel has three advanced “Bi-lobe” storage tanks capable of maintaining ultra-low temperatures around -55°C. This specialized design allows it to transport a variety of liquefied gases, including liquefied CO₂, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and ammonia (NH₃), providing a versatile solution for clean energy logistics.
The advanced tank system and increased cargo space offer improved flexibility and operational efficiency in transporting future fuels and captured carbon emissions, key for sustainable maritime practices.
Towards Maritime Leadership in Clean Energy
The ship is scheduled for final assembly and sea trials under the supervision of Capital Gas Ship Management, with delivery expected by the end of the year.
