HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the shipbuilding subsidiary of HD Hyundai Group, announced it has signed a significant contract with an Asian shipping company to construct two 8,700 TEU container ships. This contract, valued at 317.6 billion won (approximately $230 million), designates a single ship cost of $115 million. The ships will be built by HD Hyundai Samho and are scheduled for delivery in March 2027. Reports suggest that Koryo Maritime Transportation Co. (KMTC), a South Korean shipping company, is the ordering entity.
Record Year for HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine
With this new contract, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine has reached 171 ship orders this year, including an offshore facility, with a total value of $19.16 billion. This figure has significantly exceeded its 2023 annual target of $13.5 billion by 141.9%, marking a strong year for the company and reflecting robust demand in the shipbuilding industry.
