  • Sinokor Likely Behind New 13,000 TEU Ship Order.
  • HD Hyundai Yards to Deliver Vessels by Mid-2028.
  • HD KSOE Hits 61.5% of 2025 Order Target.

On July 8, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) announced a significant contract to construct four 13,000 TEU container ships for a shipping company based in Oceania. The total value of this order is approximately 834.8 billion won, which is around US$600 million, with each ship priced at about US$152.8 million, reports iMarine.

Possible Buyer: Sinokor Merchant Marine

Although the client hasn’t been officially disclosed, industry insiders suggest that the buyer is likely Sinokor Merchant Marine, collaborating with UK-based Zodiac Maritime.

Shipyards and Delivery Schedule

The construction will be split between HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho, with each yard responsible for building two ships. The expected delivery dates are set for March 31 and June 30, 2028.

Order Book Update

With this latest deal, HD KSOE has now secured a total of 80 ships valued at US$11.11 billion for 2025, achieving 61.5% of its annual target. The orders encompass a variety of vessels, including container ships, LNG carriers, bunkering vessels, LPG/ammonia carriers, ethane carriers, and tankers.

More Ships in the Pipeline

The project also includes options for two additional ships, and discussions are currently underway to lease these vessels to South Korea’s HMM.

Considering the price point, it’s likely that these ships will be equipped with desulfurization systems rather than dual-fuel LNG propulsion, which could increase costs by an additional US$20–25 million per ship.

About Sinokor

Founded in 1989, Sinokor operates a fleet of 75 ships with a total capacity of 141,085 TEU. The new vessels will be the largest addition to its fleet.
