Health Alert: Soaring COVID Levels Signal New Year Respiratory Surge

In 2024, a troubling rise in COVID-19 wastewater numbers for Middlesex-London signals the danger of more breathing illnesses coming up. Dr. Alex Summers, the region’s top medical officer, warns that the upcoming months will be dominated by a mix of COVID activity, influenza spikes, and a surge in other respiratory viruses. Intensifying COVID Circulation

COVID-19 wastewater information in Ontario has reached record levels, going past the amounts seen at different moments during the pandemic. Dr. Summers says the virus is still spreading a lot in the southwestern Ontario area and it’s very serious.

Urgent Need for Boosters and Vigilance

Dr. Summers says it’s very important to keep up with getting COVID-19 shots and boosters. He is upset because not many people in the region are getting a COVID booster. Only 16% of those over 12 years old from Middlesex-London got one in six months, he points out. As we go through this cold and flu season, Dr. Summers wants everyone to work together on making more people get vaccines as a main way of fighting against the growing danger.

Dr. Summers says that because COVID-19 symptoms can be different for everyone, it’s very important to take care of ourselves and act responsibly. As we stay inside more in the cold time of year, easy but important actions like washing hands, covering coughs and not touching when feeling ill are key to stopping respiratory viruses from spreading.

  1. I loved it as much as you’ll end it here. The sketch and writing are good, but you’re nervous about what comes next. Definitely come back because it’s pretty much always the same if you protect this walk.
