- Shipping Data Platform Offers Interactive Maps and Insights.
HELCOM reports that it is launching a new shipping data platform by putting its large data stock on maritime topics at the disposal of the public. To this end, HELCOM will give years of collected data and new life that the HELCOM Maritime Working Group, Expert Groups, and myriad projects have gathered.
Organized for Easy Navigation
This Platform is divided into three main categories to make navigation of the platform more straightforward.
- Maps: Links to map resources available through the HELCOM Map and Data Service, including thematic maps, such as the EMERGE map viewer, through which different scenarios of emissions from the EMERGE project are presented.
- Dashboards: Interactive Charts and Figures-For instance, with a time series of proven illicit oil spills in the Baltic Sea.
- Stories: Long, narrative pieces based on the outcome of a project. It explores various dimensions of shipping in the Baltic Sea in high detail.
Tailored Visualizations and Data Access
This platform uses datasets released through the HELCOM Map and Data Service, provided with tailored visualizations that were developed specifically for these datasets.
Data sources involve a wide range of HELCOM projects in addition to annual data flows submitted in line with the HELCOM data collection policy. All datasets are downloadable from the HELCOM Metadata Catalogue.
A Valuable Source of Maritime Insights
The new shipping data platform will present easy and unlimited access to key maritime data to users so that knowledge regarding shipping activities in the Baltic Sea and environmental impacts will improve.
