HEMEXPO is proud to announce its involvement in the EU HORIZON project SEASTARS (Sustainable Emission Abatement Strategies & Technologies for Advanced Revolution Ships), a forward-thinking initiative aimed at transforming the shipping industry towards greater sustainability, reports LinkedIn.
Ambitious Goals for Emission Reduction
SEASTARS targets a greenhouse gas emission reduction of 30% by 2030 in relation to levels at 2008 and an efficiency gain of 20% energy from the same source as in 2022. This will be realized through a portfolio of eight vessel designs that include four retrofits and four newly built vessel designs developed for inland, short-sea, and high-seas shipping. Advanced technology is at the center of these vessel designs, delivering sustainability and efficiency.
Official Launch in Athens
The SEASTARS project officially launched on the 8th and 9th of January in Athens. Consortium partners were brought together for the official kick-start of this ambitious initiative in Athens. The meeting laid a framework for cooperation and strategic planning in the quest to successfully deliver the project’s objectives.
A Vision for the Future of Shipping
HEMEXPO looks forward to contributing to the SEASTARS consortium over the coming years. The project, working in collaboration with partners, aspires to deliver innovative solutions that will really spur the shipping industry toward a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
