ST Songfa’s subsidiary, Hengli Shipbuilding (Dalian) Co., Ltd., has made a major stride in the global shipbuilding sector by signing contracts for the construction of six Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). The total deal, valued between US$600 million and US$900 million, highlights the company’s growing prominence in the international market. Scheduled for delivery between late 2026 and early 2027, these orders represent a significant milestone in Hengli’s journey toward global recognition in high-end shipbuilding.

Expanding Fleet and Technological Advancements

The newly contracted VLCCs are designed to meet modern standards for efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Each vessel boasts high cargo capacity, extended operational range, and low-carbon performance, aligning with global environmental goals. Hengli’s engineering excellence ensures that the ships can adapt to various routes and terminals worldwide, enhancing flexibility for international oil transport.

With this latest deal, Hengli Heavy Industry’s total VLCC orders now stand at 12 vessels, including contracts with renowned shipowners such as Frontline (Norway), Dynacom (Greece), and Laskaridis Shipping. These achievements, valued at over RMB 10 billion, emphasize Hengli’s capability to deliver large-scale, complex projects efficiently and reliably.

Strengthening Global Partnerships and Innovation

Beyond the VLCC contracts, Hengli Heavy Industry also held a naming ceremony for three bulk carriers UETLIBERG, ZUGERBERG, and LEONARDO built for Germany’s Vogemann Group. The event marked the deepening of Hengli’s relationship with international partners.

These bulk carriers, ranging from 82,000 to 181,000 DWT, are recognized for their environmental efficiency and economic performance. The UETLIBERG notably became the first vessel of its type in China launched from a slipway, demonstrating Hengli’s ability to manage multiple construction methods both slipway and dry dock simultaneously.

Hengli Heavy Industry’s recent achievements underscore China’s rapid advancement in high-end shipbuilding. Through innovation, quality craftsmanship, and strong global partnerships, the company continues to position itself at the forefront of the maritime industry. These milestones not only reinforce Hengli’s role as a trusted international partner but also contribute to China’s broader goal of transitioning from a major shipbuilding nation to a shipbuilding powerhouse.
