The Hyundai Heavy Industries – Engine & Machinery Division (HHI-EMD) has successfully completed the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) of methanol dual fuel HiMSEN engines (model name: H32DF-LM) with shipowner (Maersk) in the HiMSEN production factory in Ulsan, Korea on 15th, Dec.

Factory Acceptance Test

The H32DF-LM engine, which demonstrated excellent performance and quality in this time, is a 5,400bhp Gen-set engine that selectively uses methanol and diesel fuel and is characterized by significantly reducing emissions and greenhouse gases such as sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. In addition, it prevents corrosion with special materials and applies diesel cycle combustion and electronically controlled fuel injection methods in methanol mode to enable high-power operation in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the first methanol HiMSEN engine will be supplied to the 2100TEU vessel that is being built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, which is the world’s first methanol fueled container vessel and was ordered by Maersk. A total of 50 engines (13 vessels) have been ordered so far, HHI-EMD is expecting that the methanol HiMSEN engine demand should increase due to the increasing demand of decarbonization.
