HHI Unveils Innovative LNG Vessel Design With Streamlined Cargo Configuration

75

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has introduced a groundbreaking LNG vessel design featuring a streamlined configuration with three cargo tanks, aimed at maximizing capacity and reducing maintenance costs. This design was developed with the support of DNV and the Liberian Registry, showcasing international collaboration to drive operational efficiency and cost savings, reports DNV.

Streamlined Configuration for Reduced Costs

The new design reduces the number of cargo tanks from four to three, minimizing the need for pump towers and cryogenic equipment like gas domes and valves. This leads to lower maintenance costs and improved operational efficiency over the vessel’s lifetime.

Enhanced Profitability and Operational Efficiency

According to Jae Jun Jung, HHI’s innovative approach leverages proven technologies to maximize cargo capacity while maintaining a traditional hull design. This ensures the vessels remain competitive, with profitability and efficiency at the forefront.

Collaboration for Sustainability and Innovation

Vidar Dolonen from DNV emphasized the importance of the project in advancing sustainability and efficiency standards. HHI’s design adheres to rigorous class rules and industry standards, highlighting the value of international partnerships in driving innovation.

Boil-Off Rate Reduction with GTT Technology

HHI’s use of GTT’s Mark III Flex technology reduces the daily boil-off rate to 0.08%, decreasing electricity consumption for the cargo handling system. This improvement lowers OPEX while maintaining cargo unloading times by utilizing high-capacity pumps per tower.
