HHLA Project Logistics, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has successfully completed its first loading operation in the Port of Hamburg, marking a significant milestone in its expansion into the German market. Traditionally specializing in project cargoes in Asia, the company utilized the expertise and resources of the broader HHLA Group to accomplish this complex operation.

Project Details

  • Cargo:
    • Six passenger railway carriages manufactured in China.
    • Dimensions: 17–22 meters long; Weight: 20–47 tonnes per unit.
    • Accompanied by associated bogies.
  • Transportation:
    • The wagons arrived in Hamburg by an ocean-going vessel.
    • Transferred to inland waterway craft at Wallmann & Co terminal for delivery to HHLA’s O’Swaldkai universal cargo terminal.
  • Handling and Assembly:
    • Managed by UNIKAI Lagerei- und Speditionsgesellschaft, an HHLA subsidiary.
    • Wagons were assembled on O’Swaldkai’s rail tracks after customs clearance.
    • Final destination: Transported by rail to the Czech Republic.

Environmental and Strategic Impact

Korneli Korchilava, Managing Director of HHLA Project Logistics, emphasized the operation’s contribution to climate protection goals by promoting rail transport, which offers significant environmental benefits.
